From: Daniel J. Willis [djwillis@ufl.edu] Sent: Wednesday, July 08, 2009 4:29 PM To: Charles Kristofek Subject: UF IFAS LAKEWATCH Irma Chuck, As you are aware we lost 40% of our LAKEWATCH budget for this fiscal year. So, we have had to make some decisions on how we can continue the program under our current budget. We have decided not to cut any lakes from our program. However, we are not going to add any new lakes to our program. We would like all of our volunteers to go out each month and complete the water clarity test (secchi) and fill out the data sheet appropriately (observations). We would like you to sample the nutrients (TP and TN) and algae (chlorophyll) every other month including water clarity and the data sheet requirements. This will allow us to monitor the clarity every month and get 6 months of nutrients samples instead of 12 months allowing us to cut our cost and still get a lot of usable data on many lakes. Please just put you data sheet for the months you are not sampling nutrients in one of the sets of samples you have sampled. I would like to say that this is only temporary. We are going to lobby hard for our funding to be reinstated, so we can go back to the monthly sampling next year. I thank you for all the work you have done and are doing for the Florida LAKEWATCH program and wanted to let you know I really appreciate the time and effort you spend sampling the lake(s). Please respond to this e-mail, so I know you received it. Sincerely, Dan Daniel J.
